Country Manager/ Agent – Metals, Mining & Energy Research Consultancy

The AME Group is a leading professional advisory firm in energy, resources and metals. We offer an interesting and collegiate environment with offices in Sydney, Hong Kong and London. Our team includes lawyers, economists, accountants, engineers, geologists and computer programmers. Our business is expanding and we are keen to expand our coverage in Japan and establish an office in Tokyo. We are seeking a driven and enthusiastic person for the position of country manager / agent.


Reporting to senior management, the ideal applicant should be flexible, energetic and driven. You should be able to quickly adapt to our fast paced environment and assist, support and manage projects as they arise. A "can do" attitude is essential. The role will offer real variety from initially establishing an office in Tokyo, building client relationships by attending conferences, visiting existing and potential clients and generally assisting with the running of the business in Japan. Real responsibility will be offered and the role will evolve and develop with the business.


Some of the tasks involved include:


  • Liaising with the clients, following through on client requests and building relationships
  • Assisting our analytical team with consulting project scheduling and helping ensure jobs run smoothly and to time
  • Assisting the co-ordination of our client activity
  • Local and international travel, when necessary


The ideal candidate will have:


  • An interest in metals, mining and the energy industries
  • 5+ years’ experience in similar roles in professional services, finance or metals & mining and possibly have had experience in co-ordinating a “back/mid office” department or an operator of your own business
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in Japanese language skills (reading, writing and speaking)
  • A professional manner and commercial approach
  • Strong networking, negotiating and relationship management skills
  • A hands-on approach with the ambition and the drive to meet profit targets


Formal academic qualifications are vital as well as a genuine flair for sales and research, an existing contact network and the ability/willingness to present our views to a senior and sophisticated audience are also important. A flexible approach to working hours/ days is possible however we anticipate the ideal candidate will be available for phone calls and client contact after hours. Remuneration will be based upon experience and performance. Initial training for several weeks will be conducted in Sydney, Australia and then for a further period in Tokyo.
